A teacher has appeared in court charged with four voyeurism offences and disclosing private sexual images.

Curtis Clarke, 38, whose address is currently listed as Percival Road, Enfield, is accused of committing the offences in Carlisle on various dates in 2022.

He told magistrates at the city’s Rickergate court that he was not presently in a position to enter pleas to the six charges he faces.

Those allegations consist of the voyeurism offences and two counts of disclosing a private sexual photograph or film without the consent of the named adult female involved, and with the intention of causing the individual distress.

Prosecutors say those latter two offences were committed on a day in late December 2022, with one of those two charges relating to alleged behaviour at a Carlisle city centre bar.

The voyeurism charges say the defendant recorded the same female “doing a private act” with the intention of obtaining "sexual gratification".

This too was done without the without the consent of the person filmed, says the charge.

Those offences are alleged to have happened twice on May 21, and also on August 2, and August 10.

The defendant, who previously lived in the Wigton Road area of the city, appeared before the court via video link.

He told magistrates he was not ready to enter his pleas and elected to have his case dealt with at Carlisle Crown Court.

Clarke spoke only to confirm his personal details, to confirm his intentions over pleading, and to elect the crown court for his case.

Magistrates granted him bail on condition that he has no contact with the woman who is the alleged victim and that he does not enter the road in Carlisle where she lives.

The defendant, represented by defence lawyer Duncan Campbell, gave his current address as Percival Road, Enfield.
