A moped rider has died after being hit by a police car which was attending an emergency call.

The man, who was in his 20s, was hit by the police car in Southbury Road, Enfield, at around 3pm yesterday (October 12).

He was rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where he later died.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “His next of kin have been informed.

“The police car was en route to an emergency call at the time of the collision. It was not involved in a pursuit.

“There are no reports of any other injuries.”

The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which will investigate.

Southbury Road was closed eastbound in the late afternoon, from Great Cambridge Road to Crown Road, near to Enfield Town Centre.

Bus routes including the 121, 191, 217, 307, 313 and 317 were diverted from the area.
