A Paralympian was at the grand opening of a new Aldi store.

The budget supermarket began to welcome customers at the new store in Station Road, Southgate, on Thursday (October 20).

The new branch has 32 staff and there are still five more assistant jobs to fill.

Swimming Paralympian Eleanor Robinson was at the red ribbon cutting ceremony as she gave away complimentary bags of fruits and vegetables to the first 30 customers.

Pupils from St Martin of Porres Primary School were in attendance.

General manager Jonathan Wright said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi New Southgate.

“It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.”

Aldi is open 8am to 10pm on Monday to Saturdays, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. It can be found at 5 Station Road, New Southgate, N11 1QJ.
