A MAJOR new initiative to revolutionise cultural and leisure facilities in the borough was launched last week.
The strategy, devised by Enfield council, is called Enriching Enfield and sets out a series of changes that will be made to improve the cultural and leisure lives of people in Enfield, and is aimed at individuals, families and communities.
Plans include the development of the former Royal Arms factory site into an industrial heritage centre, and the building of a new creative arts centre in a revamped Edmonton Green, which is due to include a performance space, conference facilities, a studio and a workshop.
The council also hopes to minimise prices, especially for young people keen to take part in sport, by encouraging sports clubs and organisations to introduce junior pricing.
The emergence of widespread information technology is also due to be used in improving access to information about activities going on across the borough.
The extensive proposals were explained to a cabinet meeting last week, where the strategy was endorsed.
Cllr David Burrowes, cabinet member for voluntary and community development, said: "We already have an excellent range of leisure and arts facilities provided by the public, private and voluntary sectors in Enfield.
"This strategy is designed to build on this and deliver every Enfield resident an opportunity to raise their cultural horizons and enrich their leisure life."
