Panthera Biopartners, an experienced clinical research company which recruits patients for and runs clinical trials, has become the world’s first clinical trial site to administer Valneva’s COVID-19 vaccine to volunteers at its clinic in North London as part of a COVID-19 prevention trial.

Panthera’s clinical trial sites in North London will be continuing to vaccinate healthy volunteers over the age of 18, who have not already had a COVID-19 vaccination, for the next four weeks.

The trial will compare Valneva’s vaccine with AstraZeneca’s vaccine. Unlike earlier COVID-19 vaccine trials everyone involved in this study will receive two active vaccine doses.

Panthera is involved in a number of ongoing COVID 19 clinical trials as well as trials in other health conditions including arthritis, heart disease and COPD.

Benefits of taking part in a clinical trial

Volunteers eligible to take part in clinical trials with Panthera will receive:

  • COVID-19 test and complementary health check
  • Clinic appointments scheduled at your convenience
  • Some trials offer reimbursement for time and reasonable travel expenses

Stuart Young, Panthera CEO, said: “Every new medicine or vaccine is another weapon with which we can help to fight this pandemic and the many other health conditions where we need better treatments. We are very pleased that we are able to assist in these trials and that we are able to give people in North London the opportunity to take part in these important studies.

“We have put in place strict procedures and PPE at all our sites across the UK to make sure that patients, volunteers, and staff are as safe as possible. It is vital that clinical trials continue to ensure that there are new medications available to prevent and treat, not only COVID-19, but the many other conditions which afflict so many people.”

Volunteers accepted onto a study are under no obligation to participate and if they change their mind they are free to stop at any time.

Throughout the duration of a trial a participant’s health is monitored carefully using a series of pre-defined tests and procedures.

The patient’s GP is kept informed, and they will be provided with detailed information so they can discuss participation with their friends and family.
