Enfield Council has organised an online proclamation event in memory of Prince Philip ahead of his funeral.

At 10.45am today (Saturday) the council will be paying a virtual tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, with residents welcome to join Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, Mayor of Enfield, for the live proclamation event that will be broadcast on MS Teams.

The council's three political party group leaders will each pay tribute on behalf of their respective groups and a one-minute silence will be held as a mark of respect at 11am.

Enfield councillors will be in attendance and The Police Borough Commander, Fire Service Borough Commander and Ann Cable, Deputy Lieutenant have been invited.

Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Leader of Enfield Council, said: “On behalf of the people of Enfield I would like to offer my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Royal Family following the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip.”

After 73 years of marriage, the Queen will say farewell to Philip this afternoon during a televised funeral service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, attended by a small group of close family and friends.

Covid regulations have reduced the scope of the service with public elements cancelled, mourners reduced from around 800 to just 30, and all guests wearing face masks and sitting apart.
