ARMED robbers got away with around £1,500 after a terrifying raid at Iceland in Cradley Heath.

The incident unfolded at around 5.45pm on Friday (January 15) when two men entered the store.

A spokesman for Iceland said: "One put a knife to the throat of a member of staff and instructed him to take them to the office, where they told him to open the safe.

"When he took too long to do this one of the males punched him. The safe was opened and they made off with approximately £1,500 in coins."

The men then fled in a car – the registration number of which has been given to the police.

No-one was physically harmed in the drama but Iceland's spokesman said: "It is naturally distressing and depressing that this sort of criminal activity continues against the backdrop of the Covid pandemic."

Police say they are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with police via via Live Chat online at west-midlands.police.uk (8am to midnight) or call101 anytime or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote crime number 20SW/14661B/21.
