WE SHOULD certainly now be putting a lot of energy into calling to account our current parliamentary leaders. Boris Johnson and now more tragically, Keir Starmer.

Think Boris, think Cummings and today, Priti Patel.

Think Starmer, think Jeremy Corbyn.

I offer as a thought this poem, "The Perfect Reactionary" by Hugh Mearns, more famous for the 1899 poem "The little man who wasn't there".

To my mind it, forgive the pun, sits equally well when applied to both Johnson and Starmer.

"As I was sitting in my chair

I knew the bottom wasn't there

Nor legs, nor back but I just sat

Ignoring little things like that "
