A planning application to build 43 affordable homes has been delayed by at least a month.

Councillors at Hertsmere Borough Council were scheduled to consider an application on October 8 to redevelop a derelict site in Borehamwood.

Clarion Housing has submitted plans to demolish 39 derelict homes and build 43 new homes - all of which will be set out as affordable.

The site in question is Windsor Close, off Gateshead Road and Warenford Way.

The housing association's plans include 11 two-storey three-bed homes, as well as 26 two-bed flats within two and three storey blocks.

The scheme will provide 43 parking spaces.

However, for reasons undisclosed, Clarion Housing withdrew its application from October 8's planning committee agenda.

A spokesperson said: "Clarion’s planning application for Windsor Close, Borehamwood was not withdrawn, but the item was withdrawn from the agenda for the meeting on 8th October, in agreement with the planning department and Chair of the planning committee.

"We envisage our application being heard at the planning committee meeting on November 12, and are very much committed to bringing forward this exciting new scheme which will see 43 new affordable homes for the local area."

The Windsor Close site, despite being boarded up, has been a hotspot for antisocial behaviour over the last year or so as it continued to lie empty.

Firefighters attended two incidents in December last year after a fire at some of the properties.

Clarion told the Times after the second fire it was "urgently" taking action to protect the site.

Earlier in the year, residents raised concerns with police reporting Windsor Close had become a "centre for criminal activity".

Before all this, Clarion had submitted plans to build 50 homes in Windsor Close - but it would have been a mixture of private and affordable homes.

The plans were rejected by councillors with Clarion since returning with revised plans, which look set to finally be considered next month.
