A church wall has been brought back to its former glory after it was restored by a council.

Watford Borough Council has been restoring the wall around All Saints Church in Leavesden – and says it carefully planned the restoration by ensuring the same material, style and look were preserved upon completion.

The council worked with Project Centre Design Works to carry out a heritage assessment of the wall, which was successfully restored by local contractors Murrills.

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “All Saints Church is a truly stunning church and an important part of our town. It is extremely important that we look after our heritage so that future generations can enjoy it.”

Reverend Edward Green added: "We are delighted with the wall restoration, securing All Saints Churchyard as a reflective space for the whole community and still available for the burial of ashes."

All Saints Church is a Church of England Church in the Diocese of St Albans and was designed by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1853.

The church used to bury caskets in the churchyard, but when that practice was discontinued, the maintenance of the churchyard transferred to the council.

Mayor Taylor said: “It (the restoration) allows the history of these special buildings to be preserved and ensures the work of great figures like Sir George Gilbert Scott can be remembered and admired for many more years to come.”
