Family favourites such as Aladdin, The Lion King, Star Wars, and Detective Pikachu are some films that will be on offer at Watford’s Big Screen.

Residents will be able to enjoy a ‘cinema under the stars’ experience and watch the sunset over the town’s beautiful parks this summer as Watford Borough Council’s free ‘Big Screen’ has been adapted for a “socially spacious” programme of open-air cinema in a Covid-secure setting.

The Big Screen returns to the Watford this year, but instead of the town centre, it will be installed at the following parks to make social distancing easier:

  • Tuesday 18 to Saturday 22 August – Woodside Playing Fields
  • Sunday 23 to Thursday 27 August – King George V Playing Fields
  • Friday 28 to Monday 31 August – Knutsford Playing Fields

Cinemagoers will be able to sit within a “circle” on the grass for a maximum of six people from their social bubble so they can watch the film as a group.

Elected mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “I'm pleased that we are able to bring our town together in this way and, despite these recent challenges, provide these events free of charge. I know these have been tough times for everyone but many of us will enjoy the opportunity to get outside and enjoy one of the fantastic films being shown. People watching one of the films need to follow the health advice and keep apart from other households at the events.”
