Watford are one of a number of clubs to have made contact with Barcelona over a potential move for defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Watford Observer has been told that there is a great deal of interest in the 20-year-old, who has spent this season out on loan at Schalke, including from the Hornets.

Reports elsewhere suggest Everton are also interested in acquiring the defender's services, while Wolves are also reportedly in contact.

The France Under-20 international seems destined to leave the Catalan giants this summer and could be available for a cut-price fee.

It is understood that Barcelona were hoping to get north of £20million for the player who has another three years remaining on his contract there, but that their current financial situation means they may be willing to settle for less.

Watford did make contact with Barca last summer regarding the player before he agreed to join Schalke on loan, and Craig Dawson ended up being the only defensive addition at Vicarage Road.

With the Hornets' defensive problems well documented this season, particularly in the opening games, it seems as if the centre of defence is a position that will need strengthening this summer.

Whether or not they make an offer for the player will likely depend on them retaining their Premier League status and so no official bid has been made yet.
