Watford missed the chance to put themselves four points clear of the relegation zone on Thursday evening as they were beaten 1-0 by Burnley.

Nigel Pearson said his side lacked cohesion in the match, in which Jay Rodriguez's second-half header was enough to divide the two teams.

Here's how we rated the players' individual performances.

Ben Foster - 5

Watford were fortunate not to concede in the first-half, with Foster straying off his line to let Matej Vydra and Rodriguez go close to scoring. The keeper had his post and Craig Dawson to thank for the ball not ending up in the back of his net. Made some other good saves in the game, but was far from at his best.

Kiko Femenia - 5

Didn't cope well with Dwight McNeil on the right and made little impact when getting forward to help with attacks. The Clarets had few problems dealing with his deliveries.

Christian Kabasele - 4

Was taken off at half-time after Vydra and Rodriguez had given him a difficult 45 minutes. Not his day.

Craig Dawson - 6

Made a crucial block on the line in the first-half, but lost his man for the goal and on other occasions. Arguably the best of the defenders however.

Adam Masina - 6

Not a bad performance, but was far from his best. Should have done better with a header late on.

Etienne Capoue - 5

Set piece deliveries noticably improved once Capoue took over, but he looked a little lazy and sloppy during the game.

Will Hughes - 5

Failed to live up to his billing after a great performance against Leicester. Offered little in the way of forward momentum.

Tom Cleverley - 4

Poor deliveries and poor decision making in an uninspiring first-half before he was substituted.

Ismaila Sarr - 5

Did not get into the game anywhere near as much as he should've. Charlie Taylor had few problems dealing with him.

Danny Welbeck - 5

Still looks off the pace, despite Craig Shakespeare saying he had benefited from the three month break. Needs work and confidence to get back to the player he was.

Troy Deeney - 6

The captain improved following his game at Leicester and was a Dwight McNeil knee away from scoring. Looked frustrated by poor service however.

Substitutes:

Craig Cathcart - 5

An improvement on Kabasele, but not by a great deal.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 6

Offered some much needed forward momentum, but still failed to create anything of note.

Nathaniel Chalobah - N/A

Joined too late to make an impact.

Andre Gray - N/A

Joined too late to make an impact.
