Residents have been urged to continue to follow the rules designed to stop the spread of coronavirus as the country gets ready for another weekend of warm weather.

With temperatures set to reach 25C on Saturday, Cllr Kirsten Hearn, Haringey Council’s cabinet member for climate change and sustainability, asked people heading outdoors to follow social distancing guidelines.

On Thursday (May 28), Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a further easing of lockdown restrictions – but the new guidelines do not take effect until Monday.

Cllr Hearn said: “We are so grateful to everyone who has been using our parks responsibly during this pandemic – you’ve genuinely helped to save lives and protect the NHS. This weekend I would urge everyone to keep it up – we haven’t come this far to take risks now.

“You are still only able to meet up with one other person from another household this weekend as the changes announced by the government do not come into effect until Monday.

“Please do continue to be respectful of those around you and stay at least two metres apart. We are making progress, but we must continue to fight coronavirus together.”
