Watford Colosseum is suspending its shows after the latest government advice over coronavirus.

The venue followed suit with cancellations of shows after Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged people yesterday to avoid “pubs, clubs, theatres and other social venues”.

As of today (March 17) the Colosseum has suspended all events and shows.

Comedian Al Murray was next to perform at the venue this Friday (March 20), which was a revised date from a postponed show in November 2019.

However, this along with various other shows and events have now been suspended.

In a statement issued on the website, the Colosseum said: “We appreciate this will be disappointing news but hope customers will understand the unprecedented nature of the current circumstances.

“Ultimately, the health and wellbeing of all is the most important consideration at this time.

“We will be posting further statements over the coming days about the status of forthcoming shows.

“Where performances do not proceed, we will make contact with customers at the appropriate time to advise on the next steps.”

They added: “We would ask all customers to refrain from contacting the Box Office unless absolutely necessary to do so.

“Please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to understand the implications and to put appropriate steps in place.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.”

Last night, Watford Palace Theatre also said they would be postponing shows following the announcement from the Prime Minister.

The theatre also said it would be working with freelance colleagues to create a new online project to entertain audiences when many people would be self-isolating.

Watford mayor Peter Taylor said yesterday that the council is “closely monitoring advice from Public Health England” and a number of pre-arranged community events have been cancelled.

He recommends that anyone planning to still attend a community event should contact the organiser to see if “this is still going ahead as planned”.

He added: “By working together we can all support each other to get through this.”
