Delayed roadworks proved to be a burden for a man with disabilities as he could not visit his favourite stores.

Anthony Gold, 77, who requires a disabled parking bay for his disability, has found it difficult to visit stores at Baldwins Lane, Croxley Green, due to ongoing roadworks as construction of the new Croxley Danes school continues.

The roadworks began on January 24 and has since lasted seven weeks to build new access to the school.

Ringway originally said that construction would last until March 28 but are now saying delays due to wet weather conditions means works will finish by early April.

Mr Gold mainly wishes to visit the Croxley Hardware store and SPAR but has been unable to park near to the stores since the roadworks.

Due to his disabilities and difficulty in walking a distance, he is unable to travel to the stores.

He said: “I used to go there regularly, but now I can’t park there.

“They cut up the car park as they dug into the ground – but now it’s been on seven weeks - as a disabled person, I can’t walk far.”

He also claims to have had difficulty communicating with Hertfordshire County Council to find out further information on the roadwork delays.

Kevin Carrol, the Ringway divisional manager working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council, said: “We are sorry to hear of the inconvenience our works have caused to residents in Croxley Green, especially to those who rely on the disabled parking bay being available to access the shops.

“Our works to install improved parking and two new disabled bays have suffered delays due to the extremely wet weather we experienced throughout February that have resulted in ground conditions being unsuitable for road surfacing works.

“Our works are now scheduled for completion in early April.”
