An MP is swapping the House of Commons for house music in support of a food bank charity.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy will be stepping into the DJ booth later this month to play a fundraising event for Ravenswood Eat or Heat.

The Labour MP, who has represented ‘stow since 2010, is due to be the headline act at TRAP, Walthamstow’s first cider taproom, on Saturday, February 29.

This will be the second time Stella has lent her DJing skills to the Ravenswood Eat or Heat initiative, which last year raised nearly £8,000 for the charity.

The event, which is held across Wild Card Brewery, Pillars Brewery, TRAP, Mother's Ruin and The Blitz Factory, will be returning for its fourth year.

Claire Isherwood, Director at TRAP, said: “Last year Stella raised the roof when she kindly came along to DJ for us as the headline act. Everyone absolutely loved it, especially when she ended her set with ‘Come on Eileen’ by Dexy’s Midnight Runners!”

Stella Creasy said: “There are only two things that residents need to know when I choose the music - no requests, no repeats!

“There are only two things they need to know about Eat or Heat too – it’s doing an amazing job helping many people in our local community struggling as a result of austerity and it’s really easy to donate either food or money to ensure this vital work continues. It’s going to be a great night and it continues to be a great way to show your support for our local foodbank.”

Stephen Vitkovitch, the event organiser, added: “Whatever your political persuasion, the statistics showing an increase in food bank usage across the UK are undeniable, and that holds true here in Waltham Forest.

“If you want to see Stella on the decks, my advice would be to get there early. Last time the venue was packed to the rafters once she started her set!”

In 2019, Eat or Heat expanded to three food banks across the borough.

Chris Rennie, Vice Chairman at Eat or Heat, said: "We hope people will come along to enjoy and support the event and help raise much needed funds for the local Eat or Heat foodbanks. All the money raised will go towards supporting those in need in Waltham Forest."
