Police have issued a warning to residents following several reported moped robberies.

Pupils, parents and residents have been warned following a couple of incidents after 3pm on January 30 and 31 near Oaks Park Secondary School, Newbury Park, Ilford.

Redbridge MPS is appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incidents, or have dashcam footage, to come forward.

The borough's Met branch: "There have been reports of Moped enabled robberies in and around Oak Park School, Ilford on 30th and 31st January from 3pm onwards. In January of this year, the Metropolitan Police unveiled a new fleet of specially designed motorbikes to tackle moped crime.

The faster and lighter BMW F750GS-P bikes are fitted with an 850cc twin-cylinder engine and designed to be able to handle London's narrowest and most difficult roads.

As part of Operation Venice, the Met Police unveiled a new fleet of motorbikes earlier this year.

At the end of 2018, the Met also introduced new rules allowing officers to ram suspects off the road, even when travelling at high speeds.

Since then, the number of moped enabled crimes in the capital has fallen greatly.

Between December 2017 and November 2018, there were 15,168 mopeds, motorcycles and scooters used in crime. In the same period in 2019 this number has fallen by 42.5 per cent to 8,721.

Additionally, the number of mopeds, scooters and motorcycles stolen has reduced by 12.5 per cent over the same period.
