‘Give your vote to equality’, the GLA candidate representing the Women's Equality Party for Redbridge has urged.

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is the devolved governance body for London.

The Women’s Equality Party is standing 25 candidates; campaigning to represent Redbridge and Havering is Marta Brebner.

Ms Brebner said: “This election is a chance for Londoners to do things differently. With three votes each there’s no need to compromise - after years of being told they need to vote tactically, this time people can show what they really care about by voting for the things that truly matter to them.

“I am so excited to start campaigning in Havering and Redbridge, as part of a fantastic team of Women’s Equality Party candidates who are determined to bring a breath of fresh air to the Greater London Assembly. I’ll be asking the people of Havering and Redbridge to give one of their votes to equality, because a fair, equal, inclusive London would be better for everyone!”

The party, formed in 2015, narrowly missed out on a GLA seat in the 2016 election, securing 3.5 per cent of the vote.

Party leader Mandu Reid said: “In last month’s general election, many voters felt pushed to vote against the candidate or party they didn’t want, rather than for the candidate or party they preferred. But in the Greater London Authority elections in May it doesn’t have to be that way!

“The people of London will have three ballot papers, and that means three chances to vote for what they really care about. So we will be out there asking them to give at least one of their votes to equality.

“We are standing in this election to bring the people, perspectives and optimism that London urgently needs. Voters are eager for something new and we can’t wait to get out there and deliver real, positive change for all Londoners!”

The next election to the London Assembly is due to be held on Thursday, May 7, alongside the 2020 London mayoral election.
