Over £1,000 has been raised by Specsavers to help keep the doors of a mental health charity open.

Signpost, which provides counselling, coaching and other support to help young people aged 10-25 and living in South and West Hertfordshire, faced closure in 2018 following financial difficulties.

But Specsavers in Watford, who have been in partnership with Signpost for the past two years, used 2019 to raise money for the charity.

Through bake and car boot sales as well as donating some of the money received from eye tests, the Watford-based branch managed to raise £1,850.

The money is set to provide 75 counselling sessions for young people at Signpost.

Juliette Sore, the Specsavers Watford ambassador for Signpost, said: “I thought this quote from Winston Churchill is most appropriate in our quest to help a local charity – ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give’”.

“Mental health concerns are increasing within young communities worldwide and this is a cause close to the hearts of our staff.”

The store in Watford will continue to fundraise for the charity over the course of 2020 and is aiming to raise around £400 each month.
