A young footballer and a teenager were killed in a car crash that left three others injured.

Sophia Khan, 16, and Max Halcrow, 21, both from Loughton, died of their injuries after a silver BMW M3 hit a tree in Goldings Hill.

A 16-year-old girl from Woodford and a 17-year-old girl from Chingford who were also passengers in the silver BMW M3 vehicle were both seriously injured.

A 21-year-old man from Loughton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was originally bailed until September 20 but was then granted extended bail until December 20.

In another incident, the family of Matt Richardson, 25, paid their respects after he died in a car crash into a willow tree.

Two friends were in a car close behind, and cared for him as he was dying, immediately calling his girlfriend and family.

His mother Maria Richardson, of School Green Lane, North Weald, described him as “a kind, gentle soul, the best son ever” and said his fascination with cars was entwined with his love for friends and family.
