June saw the opening of a new overground station, Meridian Water, as part of Enfield Council’s £6billion development project. Meridian Water replaced Angel Road station, which, according to statistics from gov.uk, was London’s second quietest station.

Helen Mitchell’s petition against cuts to bin rounds, set up in April, grew to over 6,000 signatures. But Enfield Council refused to discuss the petition at full council as many people who signed it did not give their full address, meaning they were not counted as valid responses.

Music festival Field Day put Enfield on the map after 30,000 people attended the event on the Meridian Water site. Jorja Smith and Skepta were among the acts performing.

Staff at the Royal Free Hospital organised an emergency bedside wedding for a patient. Dawne Le Good was in hospital following a heart attack when she developed an infection. With risky surgery imminent, Dawne and her partner, Bill Pope, decided they should get married. The nurses sprang into action, providing the couple with as many trappings of a wedding as they could get. Dawne’s surgery was a success and she was able to recover at home.
