Watch Iain Duncan Smith's acceptance speech after being re-elected as the MP for Chingford and Woodford Green.
The Tory MP, who has held the seat since 1992, secured 23,481 votes to Faiza Shaheen’s 22,419.
Ms Shaheen improved Labour's 2017 vote share by 1.9 per cent, when Bilal Mahmood won 20,638 votes, but it was not enough to topple the former Conservative Party leader, despite cutting into to his already small majority.
Liberal Democrat candidate Geoff Seeff won 2,744 votes.
Voter turnout for the constituency was the highest since it was formed in 1997, with 48,662 votes - a turnout of 74.1 per cent.
