A plan for new offices in an airfield control tower has taken off at a parish council.

North Weald Bassett Parish councillors are floating the idea of having its offices in the current control tower on North Weald Airfield.

Councillors are set to raise the plan with Epping Forest District Council.

The idea was put forward by parish councillor Anne Grigg at a parish council meeting on Monday, November 4.

Cllr Grigg suggested the possible use of the control tower for parish council offices after Epping Forest District Council scrapped its plan to build new offices on the airfield.

Instead the district council is looking to refurbish the civic offices in Epping.

The parish council is currently based in North Weald Library, but its long-term future is unsure because of Essex County Council's review of library services in Essex.

Mrs Grigg said: "I think you (the parish council at a meeting with district council leader Chris Whitbread and chief executive Georgina Blakemore) should just open discussions and see what the outcome is."

Parish council clerk Sue de Luca said: "We were promised space in the new building (on the airfield) that the district council was going to be building on the (site earmarked for) the medical centre site.

"Therefore one would suggest that offer is no longer open to us.

"It would have been very nice if they had told us before it appeared on an agenda."
