The historic town of Waltham Abbey is to host their first official art trail this year that will showcase the works by resident artists.

Around 25 to 30 venues in the town centre are expected to serve as galleries for art lovers to visit, including Sun Street, the Market Square, and Highbridge Street.

An array of projects from different sectors of the art industry will include paintings, ceramics, collages, drawings, sculptures, textiles and photography.

Organizer, Tricia Gurnett, said: “We have a huge number of really talented artists in and around Waltham Abbey and they deserve to have their work highlighted so it is shared with all of us.

“Any artist who would like to take part is welcome to apply; the closing date for entries is 31 July.

The Waltham Abbey Art Trail has joined up to the Essex Summer of Art, a county-wide Essex County Council led series of events stretching around the county.

Visitors can visit either the Tourist Information Centre in Highbridge Street or Epping Forest District Museum in Sun Street to collect a brochure, detailing the art venues.

A vote will be held for the best artwork and at the end of the event on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, where the winning artist will win a prize.

The Waltham Abbey Art Trail launches on Saturday, August.
