A synagogue has donated almost £1,500 to a charity.

East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue in South Woodford raised £1,486.66 which they have donated to charity Tzedek UK for the synagogue's Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) appeal.

The charity works with Jewish communities to help reduce poverty in overseas communities by developing partnerships and connecting with future leaders.

Judith Stanton, chief executive of the Tzedek UK joined the community service at the synagogue on Shabbat morning, April 6.

She said: "Tzedek was delighted to be chosen as the recipient of East London & Essex Synagogue's Rosh Hashanah appeal 2018.

"It is truly inspiring that communities like East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue can dig deep and realise the obligation we have to support those living in extreme poverty. Thank you so much for the big cheque."
