The future of the buildings lining Vicarage Road will be decided by the council after developers plan to turn them into three-and four-storey flats.

Watford Borough Council held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the proposals put forward by GS8 the firm planning to build a block of flats with a shop floor.

There has been public outcry about the plans as neighbours to the development post their complaints to the planning application’s portal.

One complaint from a neighbour, Carla Clarke, said: “Watford is the most densely populated area in Hertfordshire with narrow extremely busy road's and busy through traffic.

“There is no parking on the design, this will create a potentially hazardous situations in the area with people parking up after 6.30pm on kerbs & pavements.

“It is unrealistic to expect this number of units to have no cars, guests or visitors who require parking.

“The development will be cramped. The proposed plan does not allow communal space for recreation for all the units, this will not promote the wellbeing of its residents.

“I believe the current build plans are not suited to the proposed area and not well thought through.”

Taz McMullan is another resident said: “We bought our house over 30 years ago as it was private in as much as it was not overlooked.

“This new development will have many windows and balconies overlooking the cemetery and our back garden.

“Parking is already an issue and this project will only make the problem worse.”

However, some people do support the proposal.

Jane Lambert said: “I live on Clifton Road behind the proposed development and feel strongly that the site needs to be developed.

“It is currently an eye sore from our back, upper windows.

“Aesthetically the derelict site looks awful.

“I wanted to express my support for the much-improved proposal.

“My husband and I are very pleased with the revised aesthetics and appreciate the developers continued engagement with the local community.

“For these reasons, and the significant benefits this development will bring to the area I hope that the development will be approved.”

The council is expected to make a decision soon.
