Proposals are being considered to create a cycle route through the borough.

Enfield Council is considering linking the regeneration of Ponders End with a cycling route through Enfield Town.

The proposal forms part of a series of walking and cycling improvements, using quieter routes alongside major routes.

The original plans were for a cycle route to run along the full length of Southbury Road. However, to minimise disruption to the extensive bus routes along this stretch a new route is being considered.

Enfield Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “Enfield Council is committed to promoting a healthier more active Borough and to that end we continue to invest in improvements to encourage more walking and cycling.

“Ponders End has entered a period of significant regeneration and change, benefiting the lives of all those who live, work and study there.

“By providing accessible, active forms of travel will complement the changes and help facilitate healthier lifestyles.”

People will be invited to provide feedback to help shape the proposals and design work will take place in 2019, and it is hoped that construction will start the year after, subject to approval.
