Leyton Athletic remain at the bottom of the Senior Division in the Essex Senior League after a heavy 6-2 loss at home to Sporting Bengal United.

Curtley MacIntosh struck a hat-trick for the visitors while there was also a brace for Reside Coxi-Sebastfao.

Stanley Green and Okwute Izuchukwu netted the goals for the home side but this latest set-back leaves them seven points adrift of 18th-placed Southend Manor with 11 games remaining in the season.

On Friday night, Ilford stuttered in their search for a solid top-half finish as they were beaten 2-1 by struggling Tower Hamlets away from home.

Callum Maltese had originally given the visitors a lead which had they held onto, would have taken them above Stanway Rovers and into the top half of the table.

However, Flavio Juno levelled for the home side before Wale Odedoyin netted the winner to leave Ilford 11th in the table.

Saturday saw Walthamstow come up against Stansted in the semi-final of the Gordon Brasted Memorial trophy and they were narrow losers against the league leaders, going down 1-0.

The Airportmen gained revenge for their league defeat at Wadham Lodge with Callum Ibe’s goal in the 32nd minute enough for them to take the win at Hargrave Park.

Stansted will now play St Margaretsbury in the final at Burnham Ramblers’ Leslie Field on Easter Monday after the latter’s 4-0 win away at Stanway Rovers in their semi-final.

Finally, Epping Town climbed to second in the Essex Olympian League Senior Division Four courtesy of a 5-2 away win at Canning Town Reserves.

Daniel Garfinkle scored four times while debutant Jack Leachman also found the net.

Epping are now only four points behind leaders Corinthians, with both having played 16 games, but Billy Cove’s side have a superior goal difference (+47 to +40).

Third-placed Dagenham United only trail by a point but Epping have three games in hand over them.

After the game, manager Cove said: “We should have scored a lot more today, our finishing let us down a bit but I am happy with the three points considering the number of players we have available.”
