A museum could be relocated in a £2-£2.5m project.

Plans have been hatched to move Lowewood Museum from Hoddesdon Highstreet to the nearby Spinning Wheel, which used to be an open air swimming pool.

Epping Forest District Council have a service level agreement with Broxbourne Borough Council to run the museum.

The Borough Council has set more than £200,000 aside for the move, with a Stage 1 application to the Heritage Fund to be submitted later this year.

The district council claim benefits coming its way will include an increased management fee to reflect its work on leading on the bid, along with greater commercial and community outcomes for the service.

A spokesperson for Broxbourne Borough Council said: "One of the key aims of a potential move would be to improve the Museum’s accessibility to allow less able- bodied visitors to access all the exhibits which are over a number of floors.

"In addition the introduction of a hireable space and café could lead to income generating opportunities which could be used to offset the running costs for the museum, thereby making the museum more self-sufficient."

Any move must be approved by council members, with the plans only tabled if external funding is first obtained.
