The district will be one bank fewer when Satander removes one of its branches.

It was announced this morning that the High Street Epping outlet of the bank would be shut.

Although an exact date has not been announced, the first of 140 closures nationwide begins on April 25.

A third of the 1,270 jobs associated with the branches could be relocated and saved, with the rest presumably made redundant.

"We have had to take some very difficult decisions over our less visited branches," said Susan Allen, head of retail and business banking.

"We continue to believe that branches have a vital role to play.

"We are confident that following these changes we will have the right branch network to serve our customers' changing needs, and we expect the size of our network to remain stable for the foreseeable future."

Nearly two thirds of the UK's bank branch network has been lost over the past 30 years, analysis from Which? suggests.
