A paedophile who enticed a ten-year-old girl with learning difficulties into his home and sexually assaulted her has been jailed.

On October 11 last year, Imran Saleem, 35, of Weir Hall Avenue, Edmonton, spotted his victim playing in the street before coaxing her with chocolate biscuits and cake back to his home.

When they got to his house, he sexually assaulted her.

Alarm was raised when the child went home and complained to her parents following the assault on 11 October 2018. The police were then called.

At Wood Green Crown Court today, Saleem was jailed for 10 years and put on a further three-year extended licence period upon release.

DNA evidence meant Saleem had no choice but to plead guilty, the crown prosecution service (CPS) said.

He was also given a sexual harm prevention order. At an earlier court hearing he had pleaded guilty to abducting a child, sexual assault of a child under 13, sexual activity with a child and assault of a child under 13 by penetration.

Anja Hohmeyer, from the crown prosecution service, said: “This was an opportunistic attack on a vulnerable and innocent young girl.

“The prosecution case included DNA evidence and was so strong that Saleem had no choice but to plead guilty.

“The CPS takes crimes against young people extremely seriously and will prosecute offenders.”
