TV and radio presenter Myleene Klass has hosted a Christmas Jumper Day at a primary school for Save the Children.

Classic FM’s Myleene Klass visited Cuckoo Hall Primary Academy in Enfield to host a “Klassy Christmas Jumper Jam” to celebrate Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

Whilst visiting the school, Myleene also took the opportunity to see how money raised from Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day can help support disadvantaged children at the school with the Families Connect programme.

The Families Connect programme is delivered by parent-champions trained by Save the Children to support a child’s learning outside of school.

Myleene spoke with mums who have taken part in the programme and found out how it has changed both their lives and the lives of their children.

Myleene said: “Save the Children’s research shows that the consequences of growing up in poverty can be devastating.

“By the time they get to school, many of these children find it harder to learn, struggle to express themselves and find it tough to get along with other children.

“Many go on to do less well in their GCSE-level exams than their wealthier peers and are therefore more likely to be unemployed and trapped in poverty as adults.

“The mums I met today told me they’re working long hours often on low incomes and understandably, finding the time or money to buy books and help support their children’s education outside of school can be a real struggle.

“The Families Connect programme is great because it gives these mums the confidence and resources they need to be able to help their children learn at home and do even better at school.

“It’s helping them to give their children a brighter future, which is really what any parent wants for their child.”
