The town's football club has received council support for its plans to build spectator seating and a shelter.
Epping Town FC has been backed by Epping Town Council in its aims to build seating for 150 fans at its Stonards Hill ground.
The council will help football club staff submit grant applications, with between £10,000 and £15,000 needed for the project.
Billy Cove, the club's manager, said: "The council had a meeting and they agreed to back us. Now we need to fund it.
"The council might contribute towards it, our chairman will contribute and there might be some grassroots funding."
Mr Cove was confident Epping Town FC could fill out the new stands.
He added: "For our first game back at Stonards we had more than 60 people and we had 40 or 50 on Saturday, which was a horrible day.
"It is just getting bigger and bigger."
