Hundreds of people lined the streets of Waltham Abbey on Sunday to mark 100 years since the end of WWI.

Troupes of scouts and active cadets paraded through the town's streets towards the war memorial.

Large crowds then looked on as wreaths were laid by townsfolk, politicians and even a police officer.

Come the evening a bugler sounded the Last Post in tandem with 1,000 others across the world, before a beacon was lit in a tribute called 'Beacons of Light', which signified the light of peace that emerged from the darkness of four years of war.

At five minutes past seven a town crier performed a specially written 'Cry for Peace Around the World', which began with the first of 140 criers in New Zealand before echoing around the world.
