ENFIELD picked up three top awards at this year's London in Bloom finals, which were held at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

Palace Gardens' beautiful flower beds were awarded top prize in the Bloom Town and City Centre Award category.

The borough itself just missed out on first place in the Large City Award category behind Croydon, although still claimed a superb silver gilt.

Judges were particularly impressed with how attractive and clean it was across the whole borough.

They praised the enthusiasm and capabilities of the Enfield in Bloom team, communities and schools in creating and maintaining such an appealing borough.

Mr and Mrs Fletcher, of Winward Close, Enfield, achieved a magnificent silver in the Best Front Garden category.

Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Dogan Delman, was thrilled with the results.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted. On behalf of the council I would like to congratulate Enfield in Bloom and everyone who contrib-uted to this achievement."

He added: "I have been a lifelong Arsenal supporter, so to be invited to the Emir-ates Stadium for the awards ceremony was brilliant."

London in Bloom is an annual competition that has got bigger over the years, with the support from all 33 boroughs.

Around 300 people from around London attended this year's ceremony, which was hosted by the borough of Islington.

Karen Gurrey, Enfield in Bloom co-ordinator, said: "The Enfield in Bloom team have strived over the past year to achieve and build upon last year's results.

"I feel that they have achieved this with the awards that were won this year. "

Paul Duke, Palace Gardens' precinct manager said: "We are delighted to win both the Enfield and London in Bloom Gold awards this year.

"This has been down to the hard commitment of our on-site staff and landscapers who continually work to maintain the greenery of Enfield Town."
