Bundles of cash and £300,000 worth of cocaine has been seized following a dark web investigation.

On September 20 City of London Police officers investigating the manufacture and supply of drugs arrested a man from Loughton following an early morning raid on his home.

The 49-year-old was first suspected of manufacturing drugs when officers from the force's Cyber Crime Unit began investigating online marketplaces where drugs, weapons, firearms, counterfeit and other illegal goods were being sold on the dark web.

During the raid £300,000 worth of cocaine, a large quantity of cannabis, two cocaine presses, a stun gun and approximately £12,000 in cash was found.

The man has since been released on police bail.

Detective Inspector Gary Robinson, from the City of London Police's Cyber Crime Unit, said: “This is an excellent result off the back of a complicated and lengthy investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit.

“The area of dark web investigation is still relatively new within the police service.

"Here in the City, we are working hard to find new ways to expand on what, and how, we investigate; push the boundaries of police investigation; and be innovative in finding solutions.”
