People were evacuated from a hospital after a fire broke out during the night.

Seven people were treated for smoke inhalation at Chase Farm  Hospital at The Ridgeway, in Enfield, after a fire on the ground floor of the two story building.

In total, 45 people were evacuated. 

A further 15 people were moved to alternative accommodation at the hospital for the night.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and police officers were called to the scene.

The fire was said to have been limited to the ground floor and only a small part damaged by the fire.

The fire brigade were called at 10.11pm and the flames were brought under control by 12.41am.

The site is made up of an acute hospital, an adult mental health unit managed by Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust, and Chase Village, a home for the mentally ill.

Fire crews from Enfield, Southgate, Edmonton, Chingford and Barnet fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
