A Conservative London assembly member has hit back at Sadiq Khan after he called on EU nationals to ‘reject the Tories extreme version of Brexit’.
Commenting on the upcoming local elections Mr Khan said that the future of all Londoners was at stake and the elections would be Londoner’s last chance to have their say before we leave the EU.
Mr Khan said: “We need to send the Tory Government a clear message that we don’t want their extreme and irresponsible approach to Brexit — before it’s too late and the damage is done. An extreme hard Brexit risks jobs, growth, and prosperity in London.
“The choice on the ballot paper is clear: a lost decade of lower employment and growth and a hostile environment for immigrants under the Tories with their extreme Brexit or voting Labour for a fairer and more prosperous city.”
Reacting to the comments Andrew Boff, Conservative London assembly member said: “A hostile environment is one where the Mayor of London will abandon family homes in London and build high rise apartment blocks in a city that is suffering from overcrowding. Thousands of children are being brought up in over-crowded housing conditions.
“For those in poor housing conditions it is important that we have a mayor that recognises housing targets.”
Mr Boff added: “Everyone in London is welcome irrespective of where they come from. Voting Conservative is the best environment for all citizens and their families.”
