An Enfield football team have secured a spot in the semi-finals of a national tournament.

Students at St John’s Senior School will now battle it out on the pitch as part of the English Schools’ Football Association Tournament after defeating Norwich-based Langley School.

The 11 and 12-year-old players celebrated a 5-1 result that included an impressive hat-trick from Joshua Elash, the team’s striker.

The first form team is the only side from the London and South East region to make the final four and coaches Jason Hodgson and Alex Jennings are hoping they go all the way.

Mr Jennings said: “Words cannot explain how proud Mr Hodgson and I are of this team. The heart and the drive they have shown in each of the games is phenomenal. The whole team have been fantastic and work their socks off and deserve huge amounts of credit.

"They all work very hard and are reaping the rewards of their excellent work rate and commitment to do well and improve. We look forward to the draw to see who we play next and we hope for more of the same”.

The semi-finals will take place on Wednesday 7 March where they will play Truro School from Cornwall.
