A volunteer-led touring cinema has a new home.
Enfield’s Talkies Community Cinema is to screen films at Waterhouse Hall Theatre in Compton Road at least five times in 2018.
David Williamson, Talkies’ founder, said: “We have been searching for the best venues for community cinema and are really pleased to open in Winchmore Hill.
“Waterhouse Hall Theatre has a fine drama tradition with The Compton Players and now cinema will add to the cultural mix in the area.”
Talkies first film offering is A United Kingdom on Saturday 10 February.
One of the Talkies' volunteers is television producer Helen Tumbridge.
She said: “Forget the multiplex charm of popcorn chomping in your ear and the disturbing glare of a mobile phone.
“Civilisation reaches N21 at last in the shape of Talkies Community Cinema.”
