Croydon fire station will be opening the doors to members of the public for an open day this weekend.

The station in Old Town will hold the event on Saturday (12 August) from midday to 5pm.

Firefighters will show how they remove casualties from cars after a road traffic collision and there will also be a line rescue demonstration.

There will be face-painting, a bouncy castle and an ice cream truck and guests can speak to the crews about the day-to-day work of firefighters.

They will also be on hand to give out fire safety information, including the importance of having working smoke alarms.

Animal lovers will be pleased to hear there will be a visit from one of the Brigade’s fire investigation dogs and the London Fire Brigade Fire Cadets will be there as well as the London Ambulance Service.

Crew Manager Yacine Deramchia said: “Fire station open days are a fun family day out.

“You can meet your local crews and find out more about the day to day work they carry out in your local community and have fun looking at all the equipment and sitting in the fire engines.

“There’s also a chance to learn more about the fire safety work we do, which is important for everyone to be aware of.

“So come and join us at Croydon for our event this weekend.”
