A woman had to be rescued from her flat after cooking she left unattended caught fire.
Firefighters were called to Brettenham Road in Edmonton last night (Friday, June 17), where a kitchen in a second floor flat was on fire.
The Fire Brigade, called at 9.05pm by a neighbour who smelled smoke and heard the alarm, had the fire under control by 10pm before it had spread to any other part of the building
One woman, who was in the bedroom of the smoke-filled flat, was rescued by 10 firefighters who had to force their way in wearing gas masks. She was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, and is expected to make a full recovery.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “You should never leave cooking unattended – if you have to leave the room or the house, turn the heat off.
“Our advice is to have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home and the safest option is have the alarms linked together. This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire in your home."
