Tottenham’s wait for FA Cup glory goes on after they crashed out to London rivals Crystal Palace.

Martin Kelly lashed home in first half stoppage time as the home side were left frustrated by a resilient Palace backline.

Spurs simply did not create enough chances in the second half and will be disappointed with a tired looking display.

With the injury to Hugo Lloris and one eye on Thursday’s crunch tie with Fiorentina, Mauricio Pochettino made three changes to last weekend’s victory over Man City with Michel Vorm, Nabil Bentaleb, Josh Onomah coming in.

Spurs had lost just one of their last 14 FA Cup matches at home, albeit that loss came last season when Leicester won 2-1 at the Lane.

The home side attempted to continue their fine record over Crystal Palace as Dele Alli had his header cleared off the line by Yohan Cabaye.

Minutes later a Jordan Mutch volley appeared to strike the hand of Nabil Bentaleb but referee Craig Pawson only gave a corner.

There was almost a calamitous moment for Kyle Walker after a long ball caused confusion in the Spurs backline and the full back headed the ball over Michel Vorm.

The Spurs stopper was able to rush back and claw the ball away from what would have been a comical own goal.

Vorm then smothered a dangerous through ball by Scott Dann to stop Joe Ledley pouncing.

Straight down the other end went Spurs as Heung-Min Son danced past three Palace defenders to set up Dele Alli but the teenager’s shot only found the inside of the post and Palace survived.

The Lilywhites had found their swagger after 25 minutes and Josh Onamah was next to go close as his volley went just wide of the post.

Harry Kane forced Wayne Hennessey into a smart save from his powerful 30 yard free-kick.

As the half seemed to be drifting away from both sides the visitors took the lead with a thumping strike from Kelly.

Good work from Wilfred Zaha and a slip from Danny Rose allowed Kelly to latch onto the through ball and lace his effort past Vorm at the goalkeeper’s near post.

The Dutchman will be disappointed to let the effort fly past him as he deputises for Lloris.

Pochettino threw on Christian Eriksen at half time in a bid to get his side back in the tie.

Kane started to have an impact on the match as his low drive went inches past the post.

It was not going to go in for Spurs when somehow Onomah could not convert a low drive from Dele Alli across the face of the goal.

Palace thought they had sealed it when Connor Wickham converted Yannick Bolasie’s driven cross but the flag went up.

In the end Spurs could not test Hennessey in the final few moments and went out the FA Cup for the second year in a row at White Hart Lane.
