On the first day in September, hundreds of furious people rallied together to campaign against possible plans to build a school and 300 homes on green belt land.

Those living on Cotswold Way and Enfield Road were left outraged by plans from housing company Fairview to transform the tranquil green space and claimed it would be a “disaster” if proposals went ahead.

Fears were sparked after Fairview began soil testing the land and has led to a campaign being launched by those who back onto the site.

The campaign is continuing into the New Year.

The family of a teenage carpenter who fell to his death from unguarded scaffolding could “finally grieve in peace” after a building company was fined for negligence.

Alfie Perrin, 16, from Enfield, had been working as an apprentice for Roof Top Rooms for just six weeks before the accident in Camden Road, Wanstead, in 2012.

The building company, of Baker Street, admitted to health and safety failings.

However, sentencing was delayed until September and during a three-day trial, the company argued it was guilty of breaching health and safety regulations but said this did not lead to Mr Perrin’s death.

Despite its claims, Judge Martyn Zeidman dismissed the argument and issued a fine of £325,000 plus £15,000 in court costs.

A man who was shot dead by police after allegedly wielding a firearm in a block of flats was named James Fox.

The 43-year-old was killed in Picardy House, Cedar Road, Enfield, after allegedly making threats to the police.

Armed police stormed the sixth floor of the building after receiving reports a man was armed with a gun and threatening to shoot someone.

The IPCC are continuing their investigation.
