Calls have been made for parents to apply for secondary school places for their children before the end of this month.

Last year 96 per cent of parents got one of their first six choices for their children by applying before October 31.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield council’s cabinet member for education, children’s services and protection, said: “Parents can apply online at www.enfield.gov.uk/admissions which is the fastest way. Parents who apply after the 31 October deadline run the risk of missing out on a school of their choice.

“First preferences at 92 per cent this year were up by 4.48 per cent on the 88.42 per cent figure for all London.

“Overall 93 per cent of first, second and third choices in Enfield were met – so please get your applications in to avoid disappointment.

“All Enfield secondary schools are well equipped to teach the full range of subjects with specialist classrooms, expert teachers and innovation in all fields.

“Secondary schools have also worked on particular expertise becoming designated for a learning focus such as arts and drama; business studies; sports and science.”

89 per cent of schools in the borough have been rated good or outstanding by Ofsted and a 98 per cent pass rate at A-level where more than half of grades were A*-B.
