I am writing to raise the issue of the behaviour of Conservative tellers at my local polling station at Chase School in Churchbury Lane.
As I approached the building to place my vote, a pair of Tory tellers approached me without identifying themselves and attempted to take my polling card. It was only when I spotted a small sticker on the shirt of one of them bearing Nick de Bois’ face that I realised they were not polling station staff. When I refused to hand over my details they responded by ridiculing me.
This does not appear to have been an isolated incident. Having spoken to my father to tell him of my experience, I discovered he was also aggressively targeted by Conservative tellers while casting his vote at St Stephens Church on London Road. My father is infirm and in his 80s, and I am shocked that Tory party workers would harass such a person for details of their voting behaviour, which they have no right to know.
I wait with interest to see the outcome of my complaint as this was one of the tightest elections in history and any attempt to influence voters, in particular in a marginal constituency such as Enfield North, should be punished severely.
