I refer to the recent letter you published from Mrs Lamb (‘Death of A&E boss is very sad’, Opinion, March 11), who mentioned the sad death of Mr Mark Channel, former head of A&E at North Middlesex Hospital, and her desire for the return of the A&E service at Chase Farm Hospital.
The most recent figures for North Middlesex A&E show the number of patients seen within four hours is 89 per cent against a Government target of 95 per cent. In their approved plan the health trust used an inaccurate population projection for Enfield by 2015 of 283,000, when it had exceeded 300,000 by 2011.
According to the Greater London Authority, Enfield’s population will be 343,000 by 2024. I would like to assure Mrs Lamb and others, that I for one will always argue that Chase Farm should have a significant A&E presence.
