A bereaved mother has finally been able to lay her son to rest, almost two years after he died.

Ashley Jones, 19, died with his best friends Jack Boyton and Harry Ferrand, both 17, of Elsinge Estate, Bullsmoor, on November 9, 2012.

The car the three were travelling in crashed into a parked lorry on the A10 near Hoddesdon in Cheshunt. A fourth young man, Liam Bradshaw, who was also in the car, suffered severe head injuries.

Mr Jones’ family were not entitled to road traffic accident payment because he was older than 18, which left his mother Viv Fegan unable to pay to bury him alongside Jack and Harry.

Now, after months of fundraising, the teenager has been laid alongside Mr Ferrand at Enfield crematorium.

The campaign, known as Ashley’s Wish, was set up by Mr Jones’ mother and close friend Danielle Prior and raised more than £3,000.

In a statement from both Mr Jones’ and Mr Ferrand’s families issued on Saturday, October 26, the day Mr Jones was laid to rest, the families paid tribute to everyone who helped raise the money.

It reads: “The families of Ashley Jones and Harry Ferrand would like to thank each and every one of the well wishers for their support (both emotional and financial) and kind words throughout the past two years.

“We have been humbled by the diversity of friends and strangers alike who have been so kind to us as we came to terms with the loss of our sons on that fateful day in 2012.

“You have all helped us and our families with your selfless acts of kindness and generosity, which in turn have also assisted us with coming to terms with the event. We are certain that they will continue to live on in your hearts and memories as they will do in ours.

“It is a true testament to the greatness of Britain’s multi-cultural society that we all stand together in such times of hardship.”
