A man from Palmers Green was one for three sentenced to a total of 53 years in prison for the violent rape of a woman.

Mehmet O'Dea, of Ulster Gardens, Palmers Green, was one of a trio who appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, September, 18.

The 25-year-old was found guilty of rape and attempted rape and was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for the assault, which took place on August 19, 2012.

The victim, a 40-year-old woman, had rented her garage out to an associate of the men who then started growing cannabis inside.

When she asked the men to stop, they threatened her and began to intimidate her.

In the early hours of August 19 of last year the four men took the victim to a nightclub, but after a few drinks she told them she wanted to leave.

They then left and went back to the victim's home.

The 40-year-old recalls feeling unwell on the journey home and has a vague memory of being held down and raped by the four men.

She could recall trying to push them away but not having the strength to do so.

When she came round the next morning she found one of the men sexually assaulting her.

An investigation was launched by detectives in the Sapphire Command and O’Dea and Olua Nimbo, 24, of Griffin Road, Tottenham, were arrested later day when police went to the victim’s home.

O’Dea’s brother, Fahri O’Dea, 24, from Borehamwood, was arrested as he tried to leave the country bound for Cyprus.

A fourth suspect is still at large.

They all claimed the victim had consented to the sexual intercourse in interview.

Whilst waiting for the trial, the victim was threatened and offered money by a fifth man, Petros Aristoudou, 28, of Beckenham Gardens, Edmonton.

Nimbo was found guilty of rape and was given a 20 year jail term.

Fahri was found guilty of two counts of rape and was given a 13 year jail term.

Aristoudou pleaded guilty to witness intimidation and was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment.

Detective constable Amanda Christodoulou, of the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said the sentences reflect the seriousness of their crimes.

She said: "These men are dangerous and violent offenders who have now been sentenced to lengthy terms of imprisonment which reflect the offences that they have committed against this vulnerable woman.

"These men have taken advantage of this woman and the vulnerable circumstances that she has found herself in.

“She has shown courage in giving evidence at court despite the witness intimidation that she also faced."

Detective Inspector Simon Dobinson, said: "The Met treats these offences with extreme seriousness and I hope that these convictions and sentences sends out a message to offenders and also encourages others to come forward if they are victims of serious sexual assault."
